HAPPY EASTER!

The Lenten Season has just ended. During this annual religious observance, we Filipinos, together with Christians all over the world, would have gone through self-reflection and contemplation as we commemorated the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Memories of the Holy Week of bygone days, back home, evoke a collage of religious images – a pabasa on a street corner, Fr. Peyton on TV praying the rosary, Via Crucis in a crowded church, statues of saints wrapped in purple cloth, and self-flagellating penitents on Good Friday.
These are some of the things that define our devout Catholicism as a people, although some may have waned with the passage of time. Fr. Peyton is long gone but his family rosary crusade has been kept alive through the years, as his famous quote remains in our hearts: “The family that prays together, stays together.”

We, at Yes Philippines regard you, our dear reader, as part of our family. For as long as you continue to invite us into your home, we will carry on keeping you informed and entertained.

In this moth’s issue, we have a special story on the pabasa, a Catholic devotion in our home country during Semana Santa, which is the chanting of the Pasyón, a 16th-century epic poem that narrates the life, passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Not forgetting our Muslim brothers in the south, who are currently observing their religious tradition of fasting, we feature a story about Ramadan.
